ABOUT US

You will find our boutique hotel in the center of Alphen in the former headmaster’s house from 1895.

The building initially served as a residence for the headmaster of the primary school of what was then still called Aarlanderveen. Until in 1918 Aarlanderveen merged with Oudshoorn and Alphen and thus the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn was created. More than a hundred years and various destinations further, we, Niels and Laura Aben, have transformed the building with much love and attention into a modern inn with a luxurious twist, in which we have brought back the old warm atmosphere of yesteryear. The Stadsherberg is intended as a meeting place where everyone, young and old, is welcome to eat, drink and spend the night. Alone or with each other. We offer you a home feeling with the hospitality and personal attention of an old inn and the luxury and comfort of a modern boutique hotel.

Alphen is the perfect holiday destination in the Green Heart; a diverse Dutch landscape full of hiking and cycling paths and many waterways.

In the Green Heart you can wander endlessly. For example, discover the unique Molenviergangroute or climb over bridges and fences on the farm paths. The famous Roman Limespad even runs past our hotel.

Would you rather cycle? Explore, for example, the newly created Nature Reserve Bentwoud, the largest forest area in the Randstad with more than 80 kilometers of cycling and walking paths. Many rare birds, butterflies and plants can be found there.

The Green Heart has more water than Friesland. A canoe or electric boat trip on the Nieuwkoopse Plassen is highly recommended. Sail on the Kaag, take a sloop on the Tulip Route or take a guided tour of the nurseries in Boskoop.

Whether you walk, cycle or explore the water, in the Green Heart you experience peace and space.
